Backward-Incompatible Changes

The ICT Department operates systems that occasionally require backward-incompatible changes. These changes have the potential to negatively affect the stability of dependent applications. Major system changes are therefore scheduled for quieter periods of the year (holiday periods), and advance notice is provided through announcements on this page.

Principles for Introducing Backward-Incompatible Changes

The process of introducing backward-incompatible changes is conducted on a best-effort basis. Unfortunately, some important changes cannot be postponed. In such cases, it may be necessary to forgo advance notice.

Deployment periods for backward-incompatible changes:
  • Summer break: July 1, 2024 – August 31, 2024
  • Winter break: December 27, 2024 – January 4, 2025

Upcoming Planned Changes

These changes are currently being prepared. For additional questions, please contact the ICT FIT helpdesk.

Already Implemented Changes

End of Support for Courses API v1

Date
January 1, 2026
Service
courses.fit.cvut.cz/api/v1

Courses API v1 is an endpoint that has been operated since 2019 with minimal changes. Due to the system’s older architecture and the need to meet new cybersecurity requirements, the service became a burden on the maintenance and sustainability of other applications. As a replacement, the ICT Department operates Courses API v2, with only minimal differences compared to v1. One endpoint (retrieving GitLab project information) has been removed, and the required permissions for endpoints providing easily obtainable user data have been relaxed.

Upgrade to GitLab Version 18

GitLab version 18 introduces a number of changes, the full list of which can be found in the GitLab documentation. Most of these changes can be addressed in advance by updating affected software. The most significant changes are summarized in a dedicated GitLab blog post.

Change of Tag for the ICT Buildah CI Image

As part of unifying naming conventions and removing unnecessary complexity, support for the image tags /ict/images/buildah/alpine:latest and /ict/images/buildah:v1 has been discontinued.

If you are using the above images in your projects, please update the image to /ict/images/buildah:latest.
