GitLab
The faculty GitLab is available to all students, employees, and collaborators across CTU. The service provides a central repository for Git repositories (projects) and a web interface for their basic management. It is intended for student, research, and work-related projects.
GitLab is operated in the Ultimate edition, which unlocks access to advanced features available for educational and research activities to all CTU employees and students.
An important component is automation (CI/CD), which forms the basis for several tools that facilitate teaching at FIT:
- Bulk Repository Creation – for example, generating repositories for students of a course using data from KOS.
- Course Groups – a group is created in GitLab for each course, and instructors of that course are automatically added using data from the KOS system.
- Courses – a static course website generator for the Course Pages system.
Basic tasks can be performed directly in the web interface without requiring advanced knowledge or installation of any applications. Advanced or extensive work is recommended to be performed locally using remote access.
In addition to users with a CTU identity, the faculty GitLab can also be used by individuals without a CTU account.
Users with a CTU Identity
- An account is created for users with a CTU identity upon their first sign-in.
Sign-in is performed via the Usermap tab, using the user’s username and CTU password.
Important:
To sign in, you must have a configured CTU password and a verified email address.
Users Without a CTU Account
- An account for such users must be requested by their supervisor through the ICT department’s helpdesk.
- The supervisor is also responsible for informing the ICT department when the person’s relationship with the institution ends.
- Sign-in is performed using the login form under the Standard tab, not the Usermap tab.
Permissions
- Students – up to 100 projects, cannot create groups.
- Employees – up to 999 projects, can create groups.
- Users without a CTU account – up to 10 projects, cannot create groups, and do not have access to internal projects or groups.
The above limits on the maximum number of projects may be adjusted individually upon request submitted to the ICT department’s helpdesk.
Account Blocking
After all relationships with CTU have ended, the account is automatically blocked.[1] Preservation of existing work (repositories, groups, contributions, etc.) after account blocking is not guaranteed. If continued access is required, contact the ICT department’s helpdesk.
Support
If you encounter any issues or have specific project or teaching requirements, contact the ICT department’s helpdesk.
- This also applies to graduates with an alumni role. ↩
