User Accounts
Caution:
Never share your passwords with anyone. No CTU employee is authorized to know your password.
Every student, employee, or partner has a CTU account. It is used to sign in to most faculty and university systems and is managed by the CTU Computing and Information Centre.
During your time at the faculty, you may also encounter several other credentials.
| Name | Purpose | Administrator |
|---|---|---|
| CTU Password (CTU account) | Sign in to most faculty and university systems | CTU CIC |
| FIT Password | Connect to the faculty VPN | ICT Department |
| eduroam Password | Connect to the university eduroam network | CTU CIC |
| Initial System Password | Access selected faculty systems (PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.) | ICT Department |
CTU Account
A CTU account is created automatically after enrollment. For employees and partners, account creation is handled by the Human Resources Departm ent.
The account includes a unique username, sometimes referred to simply as a username [1] (for example, flynnkev, novakj99).
More information about the CTU password can be found on the Password FAQ page.
Most account-related actions, such as changing your password, are performed through the Usermap portal (see https://ist.cvut.cz/nase-sluzby/usermap/ for details). For forgotten passwords, see Lost CTU Password. More information about account creation and password setup is available on My IT.
Microsoft Account
Along with your CTU account, a Microsoft 365 account is also created.
These services include, for example, the university sign-in gateway, your email mailbox, and Microsoft Teams.
To sign in to Microsoft services, use your CTU username in the form username@cvut.cz and your preferred second factor (MFA).
Because this is often confused with an e-mail address, here is a brief summary (see Frequently Asked Questions for more information):
| <username>@cvut.cz | Your Microsoft 365 username, which you use together with your CTU password to sign in to your e-mail mailbox, Microsoft Teams, and other Microsoft services. |
| <username>@fit.cvut.cz | Your primary e-mail address used to send and receive e-mail communication. |
The username used to sign in to your e-mail mailbox and your primary email address are therefore different.
Lost CTU Password
A CTU password expires after one year. An expired password can be renewed within six months after its expiration date, only using the methods described here (not through Outlook or similar applications). After this period has passed, follow the forgotten password recovery procedure.
FIT Password
The FIT password is currently used for:
- Authentication when connecting through the faculty VPN.
- Sign-in to faculty systems for external collaborators who do not have an active CTU account.
To configure your FIT password, use the ICT Profile portal.
Initial System Password
Warning:
Since the Winter Semester 2024/2025, users no longer sign in to the fray system using the initial system password. Access to the fray system is granted exclusively through an SSH key stored in the user’s profile on the faculty GitLab. Instructions for adding a public SSH key to the faculty GitLab can be found in the Remote Access guide.
The initial system password is used to sign in to selected faculty systems (for example PostgreSQL, Oracle, or certain specialized computer labs).
The current value of your initial system password can be found in the ICT Profile application.
Support
